This donation page has been created to help Alecia Beckford-Stewart continue to pursue her sporting journey. As a Track and Field athlete she has harnessed her athletic prowess and entered the amazing Winter sport of Bobsleigh.
After being insipred by a former University of Illinois teammate who won bronze at the 2014 Olympics in 2-man bobsled, Alecia set her sights on training for the next Ontario Bobsleigh and Skeleton combine test camp.
Her resilience to succeed was her driving force as she battled with recovery from two major injuries to her knee and achilles, however she persevered and improved in all areas required and was selected for the provincial team after the December 2014 testing.
Amateur athletes in Canada compete and pursue their athletic endeavours out of love and passion, unfortunately a large part of their athletic career is self funded. Financial support from family, friends and compassionate strangers, creates the foundation of amateur careers. Alecia works on average 2 part time jobs while training full time and managing her own strength and conditioning business to support her journey.
The bobsleigh season is from October to March and requires athletes to be in Lake Placid, Calgary, Whistler and overseas in Europe, making fundraising and financial support a necessary commodity.
Funds raised will go toward the cost of equipment, travel, accommodations, nutrition and other training expenses. Supporting her journey will not only help her have the opportunity to train and compete but thrive and succeed, with the hopes of representing Canada at an International level and one day the Olympics!
