Bob’s cancer treatment
Bob has cancer and we have a dog oncologist appointment in Santa Rosa June 15, 2021.
I have lung cancer and have been treated for the past five months with chemo and radiation. Bob has been an indispensable part of my treatment, propping up my spirits and giving me a reason to want to continue. With your help, I hope to do the same for him now.
Bob was rescued as a puppy and I picked him up in a Walmart parking lot in Bryan, TX, when he was six weeks old.
My previous dog, Libby, died at age 17 and I was devastated. I didn’t think that I could ever find a dog to replace her so I emailed a dear friend and one-time CBS News colleague, Bob Simon. When we traveled together on foreign assignments we often discussed getting motorcycles when we retired and taking off on a tour of the world together. Bob already had his bike and I wanted the benefit of his experience before getting mine. One week later, my phone rang and I assumed it was Bob…. It wasn’t, it was a friend now working for a New York radio station and he asked if I had heard about Bob Simon--- he had just been killed in a car crash on his way home from work at 60 Minutes in New York. It was then I decided to get another dog and, after a long discussion with another friend of Bob Simon’s, Jack Laurence, I decided to call mine Bob and Jack would get a Border Collie pup and name it Simon.

Bob loved everything and everybody in his new home in Wimberley, TX, including the horses. He couldn’t understand why they didn’t open the gate and play with him
We moved to Humboldt County, CA about 18 months ago. Bob fits into the Redwood forest
and the beaches of California as much as the Texas Hill Country

All of the donated funds will go toward Bob’s treatment and travel expenses to and from the Bay Area. We will know more about what his treatment will entail after our oncologist visit in June— it could be surgery alone or it could be more extensive.
Thank you for your consideration,
Bob and Keith
