Bob's Road to Recovery

My Dad, Bob, suffered an accident and had to be life-flighted to a Trauma Center in Huntington WV last Tuesday April 29th. He sustained a fractured skull and has bleeding on the brain, a broken scapula, broken shoulder, 6 broken ribs amongst other injuries. It is miraculous that he was found and transported so quickly. We are all so lucky that this did not end in tragedy. The possible scenarios are terrifying, and it will be quite some time before his fractures and trauma have repaired themselves fully, meaning he needs to be with someone by his side for awhile, and he will need assistance with the care of his home and his Stella.
He has a severe traumatic brain injury. He will not be able to drive or get around independently for some time.
Those of you who know my Dad know he is often always on the move, attending to grandbabies, his Dads farm, his Moms place, helping his siblings, friends, daughters, and therefore,...this is a truly difficult reality for him to embrace and prepare to embark on.....
His brain will be healing for up to 6 months requiring some lifestyle adjustments. Living on his property , he will needs all hands on deck to help get things taken care of around his place. His shoulder and ribs require 6-8 weeks of healing and rehabilitation to get back to functioning, and perhaps longer to regain its full strength.
Dad is the strongest person I know. We have all been so graciously blessed by his generosity and kindness over the years. Please give if you can, to help ease the next wave of this accident as it arrives in his medical costs. His Helicopter flight got him to lifesaving care quickly, however it will not be an easy cost to cover.
He has bought all of us a hog and fireworks every year ,for a lot of years....Dads shoulder and ribs should be healed come July 5 and SOTW weekend. His TBI will be ongoing with cautions and care and monitoring for as long as it takes it to repair its damaged lobes. He will likely have some sensitivity to light, and noise more than usual for awhile. Even a stumble could be catastrophic for awhile.
Im doing my best to hold it together but I promise you I am so scared right now. Hard to see the strongest man Ive known, be in such pain, so vulnerable to the smallest things, and unable to function and even be comfortable yet. The emotions are a lot. Im just trying to be here for him and get information out to all of you to spread the help-web out really far and wide.
In order to help him through this and keep him lifted in his spirits for the best success for healing without complications,....Im trying to get this campaign started to ease his worries in that sector so that he can focus on healing, rehabilitation. It is going to be a very slow journey for him. He is still resting 95% of the day, and struggling to have any appetite. His muscles are weak, and his spirits are down. Any form of help and thoughts are all appreciated more than you will ever know.
Please share. Share Share Share.
There are hundreds of friends who have come to the SOTW's over the years. Im really hoping we can pull together and knock these med bills out of the park before he even has to worry about it.
Thank you to everyone who has written, called, cooked, visited, and kept him in your thoughts. I have been fielding his messages and relaying them. It is overwhelmingly beautiful how many of you love my Dad like I do.
Thank you for reading this. Thank you again for your help and all the love.
