Bobby's Leg & Medical Bills

Hello, my name is Bobby Tracy-Blunk.

In July of last year, I caught an infection that changed my life forever.

What started out as a small ingrown hair, became an amputation within 3 days, followed by a total of 10 surgeries, two weeks in the hospital, and 12 weeks of two antibiotics via IV for MRSA. During the following 6 months, which seemed to last a lifetime, I went septic twice, the infection spread to my bone marrow and I had to have a second amputation, I coded while in the hospital which resulted in a stroke that affected my left eye, and the concoctions of medications that they had me on took a major toll on my body.

In late November, I purchased my first prosthetic. My insurance has some lovely fine print in the coverages, and decided that they wouldn't cover most of my new leg, since it had electrical components. I used our savings account, made the purchase, and began the journey of learning to walk again; but my limb quickly began to change size and shape as it healed and the swelling and muscle tone went away.

In December, I had to purchase another component for my leg due to changes in the size and shape of my limb.

By February of this year, I had changed so much in size and shape, that I had to wear up to 24 layers of socks, just to fit in my prosthetic. So, I purchased another component, which included a vacuum pump, intended to help reduce the amount of socks I need, and to keep my leg from falling off.

Now I am currently having a lot of issues.

My limb is no longer changing in size, however, the component that was purchased in February has failed and been replaced twice, and the limb does not fit or work correctly. This has caused me to have skin ripped from the back of my knee, my lower back and hip to go out and shift up to 3 inches at a time, tears on my leg, and blisters on my leg. During the last set of blisters that happened, the MRSA infection returned. Luckily, we were quick to start medication, and I beat it again...

Since my amputation, my family has depleted all funds available to us. My medical expenses totaled over $40,000.00 out of pocket last year, not including the medical supplies that I am currently fighting to have covered by the insurance. (Apparently sterile gloves are a "convenience item", when you are shoving packing material into a hole in your leg, or sticking an IV needle into your heart). Yes, I had to do all of that, because the insurance would also not cover home health...

This year we have spent an additional $30,000.00 out of pocket, and I am being told that I need to come up with another $10,000.00 to have the leg I have fixed.

There is barely anything left in our savings, our credit card is maxed out. I have no clue how I am going to be able to pay or this or if God forbid we have do this every year.

I am a very active person, or at least I was. While I had a prosthetic that was working well, I was back to my old self. It was great!

We have 4 special needs children that require 24/7 supervision. At the beginning of this year, my oldest son caught himself on fire, resulting in 3rd and 4th degree burns to his head. A month later, my 2 year old started having seizures. He had several one night back to back, lost consciousness, and stopped breathing. I had to run to give him CPR, and resuscitate him. Our children require upto 30 medical appointments a week, and my husband has recently been changed to a daytime schedule. Now the care of the children rests fully in my hands. I can not be unable to get around...

If there is anything at all you can do to help me reach this goal, I would be forever grateful.
