Happy new year friends from around the world, wishing yo a healthy and prosperous 2021 after such an horrendous 2020 , as most of you know i finally jumped ship from the uk permanently 5 years ago ,i moved from the uk to Thailand after falling in love with the place some 20 years ago ...

Luckily for me, i have a very good friend of mine , more of a brother than friend, more than 25 years of friendship together ,who gave me a helping hand and gave me a job and home and got me on my feet starting my new life here in paradise....

The last 5 years have been an absolute pleasure and i couldnt have asked for more ,meeting new people on a daily basis from all corners of the globe, making sure that every body had the vacation they deserved, exploring the island with guests and their families and generally caring for our customers at one of the friendliest resorts in koh phangan, if not the entire country., a real real pleasure, life just couldnt have got any better, its what dreams were made of, and then...

2020 has been such a difficult time for every body ,my heart bleeds to see the misery and discomfort the covid 19 pandemic has caused to pretty much every body, a truly devastating situation for so so many people.

Living on such a small island in south east asia ,tourism is key to pretty much all business and the pandemic has desimated 90 % of businesses.

5 years ago when i made my life changing move i had a helping hand by my now family. Now its my turn to return the favour and try and give a little back.

With little or no income for now nearly 12 months ,i see the stresses and strains put onto my dear friends Andy and Dachuk , Bills never stop coming ,staff (the heart of our resort community) still need housing and feeding, even with no income, they have made sure they are ok and their families are looked after.

A most of the staff are migrant workers coming from very poor back grounds ,they would never leave them stranded to fend for themselves, never.

For 16 years ,they have both worked tirelessly to make the resort on of the highlights of koh phangan and have helped thousands and thousands of people through out the years have the time of their lives, nothing has ever been too much for them to make sure this was the ultimate goal when every guest leaving had the best time possible.

Knowing Andy for more than 2 decades ,i know he is a proud man , will always put everybody else before him and dachuk is exactly the same.

Some things you dont ever discuss ,even after knowing somebody for as long as i have ,but you do not need to be einstein or an accountant to see the silent stresses showing on their morning faces every day to an empty resort and restaurant but smiling and trying to organise the staff and trying to find them work so they can feed their families even though there is no work for them to do.

I have to try and make a small difference and this is all i can think of.

They were there for me when i needed a little helping hand and now i need to be there for them, even if they have never asked me for anything. I have to try and put that glint back into the eyes of 2 of the most amazing people i have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

I find it hard to imagine the stresses they are under supporting the staff and their families along with having a young family themselves.

Times are hard for all ,but it inspires me to be a better person and help just that little bit if i can.

Thankyou so much for reading.
