Newest Update:
From Jen and Bob
Yesterday and today were very full of doctors and conversations and new challenges and growing to do lists. His stitches from his leg and arm surgeries were removed, clean steri strips put on. Everything on that end is healing well. **fun fact...Bobby's bones broke through his skin during his accident (there's a visual for you).
His ortho and nuero teams have ordered urgent EMG and MRI tests to figure out this brachial plexus injury. This injury, along with the radial nerve palsy, is of major concern. They may decide to do one surgery to repair nerves and clavicle at the same time. We'll know more after these results come in.
His right arm has no movement. There is no communication between his brain and the muscles. His fingers do wiggle. Bob and I have new tasks on our daily list to do home PT and OT to help him along. This nerve damage is the big question mark here. What will it mean long term in regards to daily living, self care, career now and later, etc.
His leg is healing well. He is walking more and has started PT ( and we have exercises to do with him at home). Bobby continues to do his breathing exercises to strengthen his lungs and there will be a sniff test for his paralytic diaphragm at some point.
There are so many moving pieces here, for all of us. Physically, emotionally, the documenting, tracking meds, managing civilian hospital and Naval hospital appointments, PT, OT, daily caretaking that all 3 of us have to get used to, etc etc. As well as managing Bobby's pain (which I honestly feel I fail miserably at daily).
We really appreciate everyone being on this journey with us. Seriously, I can't say it enough. You guys are helping us each day. This is the toughest thing we have gone through.
We are taking it day by day, that's all we can do.
Keep sending the love, healing energy, prayers.
Thank you.

Hi, My name is Angie and I want to start this fundraiser to help the Steiger family. As most know Bobby was in a motorcycle accident recently and obviously it has been hard on the family. The Steigers are a VERY close family and if you know them at all they love deeply. They mean the world to me and I'm sure to many of us reading this. I am hoping some financial help will relieve a little of their burden as they travel across the country to be with Bobby, take time off work, help with Bobby's medical bills and who knows what else will come up. This is going to be a long recovery for them all.

I am sharing the updates below from Jen so you can read the story in her words:

Last night we got a text from Bobby's Navy buddy to please call him. Bobby was in a motorcycle accident. What we think happened was he was hit nearly head on by a UPS truck that crossed over the line into oncoming traffic, the lane Bobby was in. He's in ICU, waiting for a couple surgeries. So far we know: right leg has broken femur, right arm broke, top 2 ribs broke, lower back spinal fracture, dislocated clavicle, blood in the lungs/chest tube in, concussion. He's medicated and confused. Bobby loves riding. He takes it very seriously and has invested heavily in all the proper gear. All that gear probably saved his life. I'm at the airport getting ready to board my flight to Seattle. Bob is home with the animals. Please cover Bobby in love and healing. And I know this is tough for Bob too, him not going with me today, cover him in love and peace also please. And Shan as well. We are all just beside ourselves.

Update #1
Surgery went well. They have plates and rods in his arm and repaired the leg. His lung is collapsed, chest tube for that. A little blood collecting still but they are confident that'll heal. He's got a neck brace for the dislocated clavicle and back of head fracture. He has radial nerve palsy which they are concerned about. His hand can make a fist but not open back up, and he can't feel the back of his hand or some fingers. There's no way to tell if that nerve damage will heal. Needs time.
He woke up for 30 seconds here and there and said hi to me but was just hard sleeping. We want to thank everyone for the texts and calls and DMs and comments. We appreciate all the love and support. Please keep sending love and healing. Especially for the nerve damage. We want 100% recovery.
