“I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, “move from here to there”, and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”

My mom Bobbi Hamrick is my best friend, she has taught me to be a good person, to love my family and to work hard. There have been maybe a collective 10 years of my life that I haven’t lived in the same house with her, she lived with my family from the time my children were little babies until moving to sunny Florida in late 2019.

On July 21, 2022, mom was suffering from abdominal pain and was sent in for a CT scan, the doctor suggested that while she was there, she should go ahead and get her annual mammogram. The CT scan showed a cyst on her liver that is causing the pain in her side, this issue will take a backseat to the more pressing diagnosis. On August 17th she was sent in for a biopsy of lumps found in her lymph nodes. After more testing, biopsies, ultrasounds, bloodwork, an MRI, and finally a PetScan, it was determined that she has Stage 3 Breast Cancer. She has had appointments with her gastrologist, oncologist, breast surgeon, cardiologist, and radiation oncologist.

On September 20th I was able to travel to Florida and be with her for her 1st of many rounds of very aggressive chemo. During my visit she also received her 1st of many bills, this one for only the CT was over $900. Due to the chemo schedule and mom's already compromised immune system, her doctors recommended that she not return to work. Mom has worked for Wal-Mart for over 16 years and while she does have insurance, she has a high deductible, with a $6750 max out of pocket that will likely soon, if not already, be reached. In January her insurance deductibles will start all over and she will only be halfway through treatment.

My family is so blessed and even the thought of needing to ask for help is not easy for me. I have said many times to many people that it takes a village, well I am calling on my village and asking, please help my mom. She will survive the chemo, she will survive the surgery, she will survive the radiation, but she needs help to survive the financial burden.

Father God, we humbly pray for all those who are fighting cancer. Give them the hope and courage they need each day. Comfort them in their pain and bless them with healing. Strengthen their family, friends, and caregivers, In Jesus’ name, Amen!!
