Bob Wishart life flighted after pitbull attack

We at the Bullhead 4 Wheelers are a fortunate group who are able to experience the mountains and desert of the Southwest. Our members are a healthy and active group of people who have a culture to pull together when one of us gets stuck or broken down. Right now we have a member who needs a whole community to help him get back on the trail.

On Saturday evening July 11, 2020, our dear friend Bob Wishart was attacked by a pit bull and was in for the fight of his life. The 80 pound dog was neutralized but not before it almost killed Bob.
Bob was life flighted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas after an extensive mauling, he almost bled to death on the flight. That first night in the trauma unit Bob received 4 pints of blood along with surgery to have all of his wounds cleaned and sutured. Doctors determined that both of his arms were shredded, tendons destroyed, a broken thumb on his dominant hand, he suffered severe bite wounds on all four extremities and his abdomen, as well as having a broken hip.
Bob doesn’t give up easily. Right now he is fighting through the infection and extensive damage with a good attitude. Bob has undergone multiple surgeries with more scheduled. So far he has gotten skin grafts, reconstructive surgery and pins in his femur. Right now Bob is looking at four to eight weeks before he can put weight on his right leg and six to eight weeks before he can use his arms. His recovery is going to be prolonged due to the fact that he has injuries on both his arms and legs. According to his team of doctors, he is looking at four weeks of hospitalization, plus an additional four weeks of in home care.
Fortunately Bob is currently employed, and has insurance as well as Medicare. We know this is not going to cover anywhere near Bob’s medical or income losses during his long journey back. We also do not know if this is going to force him into retirement, or if he will be able to return to work. Bob's recovery will be lengthy which will require multiple trips to Las Vegas for treatment and follow up. We anticipate months of physical and occupational therapy.
Bob has been a tremendous pillar of our off-roading community. We want to see him with both hands on the wheel leading our club runs soon. Bob participates in many nearby events and volunteers at Desert Splash, Hump & Bump and the Jeep Winter Jamboree. His son got to see him in the hospital, and he is already talking about his return to Jeepin'.

Right now, Bob needs all the help he can get. We want him to get back to full strength, so he is able to get back on the trail to enjoy a well deserved retirement full of off-roading and working on anyone's Jeep who needs help!
Bob was born in Ohio, and moved to Garden City, Michigan where he graduated high school. He joined the Army, upon discharge he became a civilian contractor working for the National Guard. Bob has two sons, one daughter and one adopted daughter. He currently lives with his girlfriend of 20 years and works as a multi-department manager at Walmart. Everyone that comes across Bob absolutely loves him.

He has a zest for life and is always ready for the next adventure that life throws at him. If you ask him for help, he gives you twice what you asked for. We are really hoping our community can pull together and help him out in his time of need.
We are asking for donations to help with the cost of his recovery which will include the patient responsibility of his medical treatments, travel costs, hotel costs, in-home care and loss of income.
