Bob Stiles Medical Fund
Donation protected
For about seven years, my uncle, Bob Stiles, has endured the effects non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. Up until last week, he has undergone various treatments and taken an array medicines to combat organ failure. The medical help he received tried to slow the degredation of his liver, but it was not able to improve it.
Bob was placed on the liver transplant list this year. Since then, his health has deteriorated due to the lack of operation of his liver. Our family watched as Bob's quality of life plummeted.
On November 24th, Thanksgiving Day, Bob received the call he had been waiting for; a liver match became available. He underwent liver transplant surgery the following day and has since been in recovery. The doctor's post-surgery assessment of the liver concluded his previous liver had near zero function; he emphasized that Bob may not have lived to see another transplant opportunity.
A liver transplant is no small operation and will result in an extensive recovery time. Previous months resulted in limited work ability for Bob, so the family has experienced financial duress. His wife, once a stay-at-home mom, is now working the upwards of sixty hours a week to help make ends meet. This campaign was developed to help with expenses incurred during his extended illness.
Thanksgiving now has a different meaning for our family. We are hopeful that Bob, once so close to death, will be able to enjoy many holidays and gatherings to come. He has been a blessing to our family and we are so thankful and eager for the upcoming years.
Many people in the Cartersville and surrounding communities know Bob by his involvement in his children's lives through recreational sports. He has coached many football, basketball, and volleyball teams over the years - and he hopes to coach seasons to come!
We thank everyone in advance for any gift you give - whether it be monetary or through prayer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the donor's family. Due to the gift our family received this Thanksgiving, we encourage everyone to consider becoming an organ donor.
