REST IN PEACE
Robert Anthony Silano was born on September 10, 1942, inBrooklyn, New York. He passed away onJune 17, 2022, in Washington, DC.
Bob received a Bachelor of Arts degree from CathedralCollege, a Roman Catholic seminary in Douglaston, NY in 1964. He later did postgraduate work at the NewSchool for Social Research in New York City, the University of Louvain inBelgium, and the University of Canterbury in the United Kingdom.
In 1966 he was commissioned as an officer in the UnitedStates Army, serving as an instructor in at the Army Special Warfare School inFort Bragg, North Carolina; research coordinator, Army Materiel SystemsAnalysis Agency, Aberdeen, Maryland; and plans officer, Headquarters,Department of the Army, Washington, DC. He served in the Republic of Vietnam, 1969-71 and continued his servicein the Department of the Army until 1977.
As some of you know, Bob had been bravely coping withvarious health issues during the last twenty years, a struggle that became evenmore daunting following the onset of the COVID pandemic. Bob has no surviving immediate family,although his numerous friends and colleagues appreciated his erudition,cerebral wit, and wide-ranging mastery of history and national securityaffairs.
Several of his compatriots are pooling resources to ensurethat this veteran and patriot has a dignified burial and that his life isappropriately celebrated. Anything youcan contribute toward this would be much appreciated. Thank you.
