On October 28, 2021, we lost a great one. Robert Shinichi Nakamura, also known as Bobby, Bubba, Mr. Bob, Boss, Uncle Bubba, and many other wonderful nicknames unexpectedly passed away from cardiac arrest. He was with a group of poker friends in the city he loved, Las Vegas, where he often talked about retiring one day.
At 9:15 A.M. at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas, Bubba complained of back pain and thought he was having a heart attack. He was quickly taken to the hospital and found to have an aortic dissection. The plan was for open heart surgery to fix this artery but sadly, he went into cardiac arrest and was not able to recover. He is survived by his mother, Setsue Nakamura. Bubba was the sole provider for his mom, taking her to doctor appointments, ensuring she takes her medication, feeding her, and everything else that goes along with caring for a loved one.
Bubba was a full-time social worker for the Department of Children and Family Services in the City of Los Angeles since graduating with his master’s degree from Cal State LA. He has held many jobs such as cashier at Shell, massage therapist, and professional poker dealer. Throughout his varied experiences, he has made lasting friendships along the way.
Bubba was everyone's best friend. He was a master at making people smile and laugh. Caring, funny, thoughtful, and kind are what we think of when thinking of him. He treated everyone equally, never discriminated, and always had everyone’s best interest at heart. It truly is a sad and difficult time as I'm sure most of you, like me, considered him family!
Bubba would never want anyone to feel sorry for him. He went through so much. If you didn't know, he had kidney failure and we almost lost him a couple years ago. On dialysis daily, he never complained, never asked for help, acted as if nothing ever happened, and never showed any fear. Even in his darkest moments, he would always find the time to help his friends and the community - always donating his time. Giving was in his nature and he never asked nor expected anything in return.
We created this go-fund me to help raise funds for Bubba's funeral expenses and for the care and well being of his mom, as he was her only caregiver. Just as Bubba has touched our lives with his selfless acts, we hope you will consider giving back to help support in honor of his memory.
- Rest in Peace
