Bob Martley’s toughest battle… ALS

As a Marine, Bob has fought many battles but ALS is the toughest one yet.

On September 23, 2024, Robert Martley was diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease), a neurodegenerative disease. This tragic news came after months of medical exploration and hit the family with shock. Bob, aka Deuce, a Marine Corps veteran, loving father, devoted husband, active citizen, and athlete/coach, is now faced with a challenge no one is ever prepared to endure. The family is bracing themselves for a heartbreaking journey that will change their plans and aspirations forever.

Bob’s physical decline required early retirement for disability, leaving his family in financial uncertainty. Their home in Portsmouth must now be modified for ADA compliance to make the first floor accessible for Bob going forward. There are also unknown costs for medical expenses, uncovered medications, transportation, and other mobility devices. As Bob’s disease progresses, expenses will only mount.

We are seeking support to help ease the burden on the Martleys as they navigate this uncertain road. As many know, Bob and Celeste, along with their twin daughters, Collette and Suzanne, are a very close-knit family. They spend time together in the community, at their church (Portsmouth United Methodist Church), Fenway Park, honoring fellow Marine veterans, traveling, and spreading their love to so many.

This beautiful family is trying to remain positive, live in the moment, cherish their time together, and embrace the simple joys of life. Bob has been incredibly generous in giving of himself throughout his life. Let’s unite and honor this beautiful person!
