Bob Creighton, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away January 31, 2019 in Denver, after a long bout with cancer, heart issues and dementia. Bob was a good friend of mine. We were Alpha Tau Omega fraternity brothers when we attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney in the mid 1960’s. This is where Bob met the love of his life, Helen Silas, and they were married 51 years. They have three children, John, Stephanie and Jeff, as well as four grandchildren.
Bob’s banking and finance career had him working in Overton, Nebraska, as well as Colorado, Texas and New York City. Bob worked until 2009, when his health issues forced him to retire.
His cancer was an inoperable one, located behind his vocal chords. The chemo and radiation treatments he undertook devastated his mouth, causing him to lose his teeth. But, further, the treatments helped to cause his dementia, and for the next decade until his death, Bob fought his cancer, weakening heart and mental illness – any one of these is bad enough, but he was challenged by all three.
His wife, Helen, stepped up. She took care of Bob and worked full time. At 73, she is STILL working today. While Bob had some health insurance, not everything was covered, including dental, nursing home care, some of his mental health issues and large co-pays on some of his meds.
Helen can really use your help. When I broached this GoFundMe page idea to her, her first selfless reaction was, “Oh, wonderful. We can donate whatever money you raise to organizations who fight dementia.” “No, Helen, I told her, Bob’s ATO fraternity brothers and others want to raise this money for YOU. To help address debt, and to afford you the right to retire. We want you to work only if you WANT to, not because you HAVE to. Once your debt is erased and your retirement secured, then please use these funds to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association or others of your choosing.”
We hope you’ll join us in this very worthy campaign. The need is immediate
May the soul of our friend and fraternity brother, Robert, rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon him.
With love and respect,
Tom Paxson
