Robert Axtell (Bob) was diagnosed with MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) in April of 2016. MDS is a form of cancer where the bone marrow fails to produce healthy mature blood cells. Initially, Bob was treated with chemotherapy and in late November he received a Stem Cell Transplant from his daughter in an attempt to cure his condition. The procedure was performed at the Wilmot Cancer Center in Rochester, New York. The initial prognosis was that Bob would remain in the hospital for 6 weeks and then return home to Oswego, New York. Unfortunately, a major complication, a brain hemorrhage has resulted in 3 additional surgeries that has extended his hospital stay to over 11+ weeks with no release date in sight.
Cathy Axtell (Bob’s wife) has been unable to work since the cell transplant was performed and spends her time commuting from Oswego where she cares for her son and Rochester where Bob remains in serious condition (2 hour commute). The costs of the commute, lodging, and medical expenses are becoming overwhelming.
Please consider helping this wonderful family during this very difficult time.
