Wednesday night as my mom (Pauline), aged 77 and my dad (Bob), aged 79, were driving home from a vacation in Utah, the van they were traveling in was hit from behind on Interstate Highway 80 by a semi-truck.  My dad was thrown from the van by the impact, which resulted in 2 broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and fluid build-up around his lungs.  My mother also had injuries to her lungs but more concerning, she currently has no feeling below her bellybutton.

They were airlifted to the University of Utah hospital in Salt Lake City. Both my mom and dad are considered in stable condition. My mother was taken into surgery on Thursday afternoon to attempt to repair the injury to her back.  What complicates this is that she has had extensive back surgeries in the past and has had many levels of her spine fused.  She is also a breast cancer survivor in which she had to go through chemotherapy and a double mastectomy in the past. 

We will not be able to go see them for the next 5 days because of the Covid protocols at their hospital.  Once we are allowed to see them, my siblings and I will be rotating trips out to Utah until my mom and dad are able to come back closer to Chatfield, although it sounds like my mother will be going through an extensive recovery period.

We ask for any help you can give to offset the medical costs for Bob and Pauline, as well as the costs that they will incur to travel back home and any structural changes to their home that may need to occur because of mom's injuries and the extent of her recovery.  YOUR PRAYERS AND POSITIVE THOUGHTS ARE ALSO VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
