As many of you know, I have always worked. I have worked at Head Start since August 2003. I was offered a new job in April. I was torn about leaving the security I had there. I found a quote that spoke to me about changing jobs. "Step out in faith. You may not see the staircase but take the first step." Martin Luther King Jr. I changed jobs, and not long after that, Bob got sick. He had flu-like symptoms but tested negative for that and for Covid. He continued to get worse even after going to his primary doctor. On May 31st, after getting home from work, I called my supervisor and told her I would stay home the next day due to Bob's health. He woke me up around 4:30 to go to the hospital. After having tests, he was diagnosed with pneumonia and had a massive pocket of infection behind his lungs. He was transferred to a larger hospital so the infection could be cleaned out surgically. He ended up septic and had five surgical procedures within the first week of being hospitalized due to the infection. I ended up resigning, which meant we lost two-thirds of our income. After two different stays in ICU, he was finally stable enough to be released to rehab. He went to CarePartners on June 25. July 18th, he was discharged to come home. He is dependent on me due to being bedridden. He does receive physical therapy at home but has not been able to take a single step since June 1st due to having a broken hip from the infection. I have been looking online daily for remote employment with no luck so far. We anticipate him being dependent on me for at several months before I can try to work again. This amount will cover our household expenses for six months. Any help you can give us will be greatly appreciated.
