Boat Making in High School Physics
Donation protected
Hello. Our physics teachers, Diane Hotz, Lisa Barnett, and Yvonne Eibeck have been teaching physics at Rancho Bernardo High for 20 years. The final project each year is the Boat Project. In groups of 3 students make a boat in which one person gets in and paddles across the pool.
The students learn three engineering aspects in order to make the boat...buoyancy, stability and structure. Through a series of labs and lessons they design and produce the boat. They are given the wood and paper. The students use glue, paint and polyurethane to finish it.
This has been a tradition for the past 30 years! However, the cost of one strip of wood has increased from approximately $1 to $6!
We won't be able to continue to the boat project this year without financial support.
This project will affect over 240 students this year.
We would appreciate any donation you can afford. Thank you so much!
