Boarding School for kids in Tanzania

My name is Julia Mello and I'm fundraising for Children from an Orphanage in Shangarai, Arusha - Tanzania.

The kids I am trying to help have an unknown background and their ages vary from 1 to 10 years old. They live in an orphanage managed by a corrupt person who uses the kids to get donations (money) from people and use this money to buy properties for himself. It is painful to see it. The kids live with VERY little, less than any of us can imagine, but it is still better than not having a place to stay and/or some food to eat.

 

My main goal is to help as many kids as possible to get Sponsors for Scholarships so they can leave the orphanage and get proper education, nutrition, and housing.

I started asking for help in 2022 and we got 8 kids to school!

(Martha, Martin, Michelle, Maria, Cornelius, Emilya, Nora, and Rahim)

In 2023, it was harder, we got a lot less help but we still got to keep them all in school. (And I am forever thankful for the people that have been helping!)

Now, for 2024, I am determined to do all I can to keep those 8 kids in school until 7th grade and of course, get more kids to do the same. (I can't accept the idea of sending them back to the orphanage and letting them feel abandoned once again!)

I can't do it all myself! That's only possible with your help!

The cost for each kid to join the school is $750 US dollars. ANY HELP HELPS!

During my time in Tanzania, I spent time with the kids, got to know the orphanage, and took the time to visit Government Schools (Public Schools) and Private Schools to get a better idea of their reality.

---Here is why we should avoid the kids going to Government Schools: 

1. Public schools are better than nothing but that means they are still living in very bad conditions at the orphanage.

2. From grades 1st to 7th they only teach Swahili (Tanzanian language). In grade 8th they suddenly switch to English! Of course, the kids cannot keep up with the content due to the language barrier and the majority of kids drop school for that reason.

That is the biggest reason for kids to quit school in Tanzania.

 3. They still use sticks to punish the kids.

 4. They can have over 100 kids per classroom.

 

---What do they get in the Private School:

The School I've visited to send the kids is the BLUE SKY SCHOOLS. The following prices are for Boarding School, which means the Child will leave the Orphanage and live in the Board School with Education, Better Nutrition, and better Housing. Uniforms and materials are included.

After a negotiation for a discount, the annual fee per child is US$750.

Just a reminder, that's not at all even close to being amazing in comparison to what we are used to, but it's definitely a Dream for those kids!

The kids have three months of vacations per year (Jun, Jul, Dec) when they return to the Orphanage and spend time with the kids they have known as family. Some of those kids actually have a family but they can't afford to feed them and that's why they were sent to the orphanage.

 

It would be perfect if we got people willing to sponsor them from grades 1st to 7th. (We already have 4 of those!) However, I want to clarify that helping only once is fine, as ALL the help we can get is greatly appreciated!

It is important to say that 100% of the money received goes to the kids!
