Bo Manly's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
The Manly family is a family of survivors. In 2015, Bo Manly was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis, which had led to cirrhosis and liver failure. Autoimmune hepatitis is a disease in which the body’s own immune system attacks the liver and causes it to become inflamed. The disease is chronic, meaning it lasts many years. His only hope for survival was a liver transplant.
After years of waiting, a donor liver was found for Bo on 10/19/2020, saving his life and granting him the opportunity of seeing his two boys grow up. The surgery is a grueling one, and recovery involves frequent doctor visits, countless medications and round the clock care for the first few weeks following discharge.
Due to his illness, Bo hasn’t been able to work since 2017. His wife Tara is a second grade teacher, working many secondary jobs to help continue to keep their family home and ensure the best situation for her husband and their two boys. Unfortunately, teachers are not afforded the ability to take extended paid leave, and although her position is secured, time off to attend to the daily doctor visits and treatments is unpaid, placing their livelihood at risk.
Bo and his entire family feel incredibly blessed to have received this donor liver. The gratitude they hold for the donor’s family is immeasurable, but facing the seemingly insurmountable financial costs before them will not stop this incredible family from fighting and continuing to survive.
The Manly family needs your help to pay for long term hotel accommodations near UCLA Medical Center and funds to help them continue to pay their mortgage, household bills and life saving medications not covered by insurance while Tara is on unpaid leave from her teaching position.
We have set an initial goal of $10,000 to help this amazing family. Any funds received in excess of need will be directed to their sons, Jacob and Ben, to help pay for their mounting college tuition costs.
