Bo a 6 ans et demi. C'est un mélange de husky sibérien croisé malamute et berger allemand. Il aime courir dans le bois, faire du traineau et jouer avec moi.
J'ai adopté Bo à l'âge de 4 semaines seulement dans un refuge pour animaux. On m'a dit que la mère ne nourrissait plus les chiots. Depuis, il est très dépendant de moi.
À 1 an, il a perdu la vision de son œil gauche à cause d'une infection qui a provoqué l'apparition soudaine d'une cataracte. Le vétérinaire m'a dit que c'était un mauvais gène du husky. À ce moment-là, il a dû s'adapter à sa nouvelle réalité. J'ai fait des recherches pour le traitement et l'opération coûte plus de 7 000 $ avec la première visite et le suivi.
Heureusement, il s'est très bien adapté et la plupart du temps, j'arrivais à oublier qu'il ne voyait pas de son œil gauche. J'ai donc décidé d'attendre, car je ne peux pas me permettre ce genre de dépenses.
Vers l'âge de 2 ans, j'ai remarqué un petit Y bleu dans l'œil droit. Le vétérinaire a confirmé qu'il s'agissait d'un développement précoce d'une cataracte dans son deuxième œil.
À 3 ans, son œil droit était quasiment inchangé, j'étais super heureux et je pensais qu'il ne s'aggraverait pas avant qu'il vieillisse.
Depuis l'âge de 6 ans, la situation a empiré rapidement. Le petit Y est maintenant un grand Y de 2 mm de large et le cercle bleu s'élargit autour de celui-ci. À ce rythme, il sera probablement aveugle d'ici la fin de l'année.
Je cherche de l'aide maintenant pour une raison : L'aider à retrouver sa qualité de vie. Son comportement à changer ces dernières semaines, il est moins enclin à jouer avec d'autres chiens. On a l'impression qu'il est sur ses gardes. Il est un peu plus nerveux. J'ai un nouveau-né à la maison qui va bientôt commencer à ramper et je ne veux pas l'isoler dans d'autres pièces. Il est toujours près de moi et je l'aime.

I adopted him by the age of 4 weeks at an animal shelter. I was told is mother would not feeds the puppies.
At age 1, he lost vision of is left eye to an infectious that caused cataract to suddenly appear. The veterinary told me it's a bad gene from the husky. At that point he had to adapt to is new reality. I did some research for the treatment and it cost over 7 000$ with the first visit and follow up. Thankfully, he adapted very well and most of the time I didn't realize he wasn't seeing from is left eye. So I decided to wait since I can't afford that kind of expenses.
Around the age of 2, i noticed a tiny blue Y in is right eye. The veterinary confirmed it was early stage development of a cataract.
At age 3, is right eye was almost unchanged, I was super happy and thought it would not get worst until he gets old.
Since age 6, it got worst really fast. The tiny Y is now a 2mm wide capital Y and a blue circle is getting wider around it. At this rate, he will probably be blind by the end of the year or so.
I am seeking help now for one reason. Help him get is quality of life back. Is behavior is changing in the last weeks, he is less prone to play with other dogs. It feels like he's on is guards. He's a bit more jumpy. I have a newborn at home that will soon start crawling around and I don't want to seperate him in other rooms. He's always near me and I love him.
