Bo and Mo Need Your Help

It is breaking my heart to watch my beloved baby gelding in so much pain, knowing how much love he shows me every day.  He and my dog are truly my everything.

Goin No Where is a yearling gelding who has an absolute heart of gold.  He has been very, very sick for a long time, but his strength of character and love for people caused him never to complain or show distress, so he went undiagnosed until it was almost too late.

Four days of travelling on a trailer from Columbus, Ohio to Northern California Bo seemed tired but still desired cuddles and attention and loved to have his head caressed.  A week later, he began to run a fever and was slightly winded after just walking up a hill.  The vet, who was there to perform a routine teeth floating took his heart rate and it was beyond alarming.

I rushed Bo to the amazing clinic in Oakdale California, Pioneer Equine Hospital where several doctors were shocked to find how truly sick he was without distress symptoms.  He simply let them poke and prod while enjoying a scratch or two when he should have been viscous and ornery from the pain.  Likely had I not gone in that day, BoDawg would have passed away within two days.

His lungs were almost completely crushed by fluid.  So much fluid that through an ultrasound his heart was not visible.  The selfless doctors and staff worked tirelessly to drain 57lbs of fluid from Bo's body that first day as he gently stood there with his head in my arms.  At the finish he took one semi-deep breath and nudged me with his nose as if to say 'thank you'.

Further research showed he has a large abscess on his left lung and a small one on his right.  These abscesses are the cause of the fluid production.  He was likely only using a pinky finger size portion of his lungs to stay alive. He never once showed any sign of weakness; he is a lover and a fighter.

Currently Bo is at Pioneer Equine Hospital and has quite a long stay ahead of him.  Good news is the antibiotics are working and they predict a full recovery that should not affect his immune system or his lung capacity or his ability to become a show horse in the future.

As he has slowly been improving, he has become quite the celebrity at the clinic, even sharing morning coffee with his favorite tech.  Each hour more of his true loving, funny personality is able to be expressed as he begins to feel better.

His illness came as a great shock to me and at a time in my life where I am going through some very personal turmoil.  He is my dream horse, my future goals and now the love of my life (as is my dog).  I couldn't imagine letting him pass away or to put him down.

However, his treatment for a full recovery is estimated to be over $7000.  I am asking for your help at this time to reach my goal.  I am embarrassed and saddened as I like to be a strong, independent person, but at this time I have no other choice.

Bo is likely to have a minimum of another week or two in the hospital and several visits for about a month or more once he comes home.  Fortunately, he should be able to enjoy turnout and light work until he is fully cleared for training and he will have the best care and the most love a horse has ever gotten.

Anything donated, no matter how small will be greatly appreciated and used to cover his medical expenses.  If (and God bless) I raise more than is needed, I will donate this money to a needy Bulldog Rescue in the memory of my beloved boy Smash, who never got to meet his new brother.

Thank you so much for reading his story.  I love this horse with all my heart.  I wasn't supposed to, but the minute I saw him he stole it and said it was his.  He truly is a people-horse with a wise old soul.

He is a fighter.  He is strong.  He is going to beat all the odds.  And he truly appreciates life and love.  That you can tell just by being near him.

Let's get him back to this shape!  He deserves it!
