Yesterday a friend did a very brave thing and left a domestic abuse situation. I am so, so proud of her. M and her young child are being housed temporarily in a safe location. She is trying to work out a reasonable co-parenting agreement (the abuse does not extend to the child further than exposure), but is only being met with anger and threats.

 

M is now facing a potentially lengthy legal battle with a spouse that continues to threaten and try to control her from afar, an immediate need to set up a new home with limited funds and get their child into counselling. I am in the process of helping her apply for any assistance programs that she is eligible for, but I also know that I have a wide network of very compassionate, wonderful people who would be willing to help if they are able to.

 

All funds will go directly to her to establish her new household, replace items left behind if they cannot be recovered, pay for any household expenses that she cannot cover until child and spousal support is established, and help to cover legal fees.
