Saving Mr Beau
Hello my name is Beau, and I'm a 5 year old Alaskan Malamute. On Monday I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in my back leg - bone cancer to you and me :( The first vet we visited told my mummy and daddy that the cancer had already spread to my heart, but luckily they took me to a specialist because they love me very much and the specialist has confirmed that it's not in my heart! Yippee!!!
This is great news as it means that I don't have to be sent to heaven next week. However, the cancer is very large and has taken over most of my thigh, which means the only option is to have my leg amputated.
Amputation is very expensive, particularly as I am such a large breed. My mummy and daddy have decided that even though it's going to cost an arm and (quite literally!) a leg, they love me too much to cut my life short when I am so young, so I am having the surgery on Tuesday 16th February.
The vets say I will learn to walk and run on 3 legs very quickly, which is exciting as I'm missing playing with my BDF (best dog friend) Tinkerbella and my mummy and daddy. They didn't know as I haven't been showing them, but it's been painful for a long time now so it'll be nice to be able to run and play with no pain.
Here is a breakdown of the costs involved:
Hind Leg Amputation: $7000.00
On Going Pain Relief and Chemotherapy: $4000.00
Total cost: $11,000.00
My mummy and daddy just can't afford it all by themselves, and I was really hoping that all the nice people that I have slobbered on and put fur on and all of the nice people my mummy and daddy know might be able to offer their support with a donation towards my operation. Anything at all will be appreciated more than I truly think any one can understand. My mummy loves me so much and I am her favourite wolfie in the whole wide world.
We'll also be holding some fun fundraisers over the coming months to help raise more money so please do come along to those when you're invited. I (probably) won't be allowed to be there but I will be very grateful for your support.
