Marleys Road to Recovery

Update:

Thank you so much for the support this far - it is greatly appreciated! Marley’s surgery will be at noon today - Beth and Darryl are visiting Marley at 10:30am! The veterinarian clinic is not 100% sure what is causing Marley’s paralysis. They are hoping it is a split disc but it is possibly a tumour, hematoma, or blood clots. With each diagnosis comes a different prognosis and risks. Thank you again!

Update from Bethany: Surgery is over and she is recovering from the anaesthesia. It wasn't a disc, the vet said from her naked eye it looked like a really large hematoma/blood clot which they removed. They ran a coagulation panel and she doesn't have any blood abnormalities so they aren't sure why this would have happened - perhaps from a trauma/injury.
They will call me with updates in how she is recovering. I can't see her until today, as they wanted to keep her quiet and rested. They will begin neurological tests today to see if the surgery was successful and they expect to keep her until Sunday.
I'm so glad the surgery is over and she is still alive!
We won't know if the surgery was successful and healed her paralysis until they begin testing today

Update from Beth:
Marley made it through surgery and is recovering well and we head home tomorrow! Paralysis will ideally begin to heal in the upcoming weeks but no guarantees. Thank you SO much everyone for all your support via donations, messages and thoughts! It had meant the world.

Marley is only three years old - young, full of energy, and deeply loved by her family. But yesterday morning, she woke up completely paralyzed.

Her owners, Beth and Darryl rushed her to the emergency veterinary clinic in Sydney, Nova Scotia. After an emergent assessment, they were told Marley was suffering from a serious spinal condition that required emergency surgery.

The only facility able to perform the surgery that Marley needs was in Prince Edward Island. Beth, Darryl and Marley have arrived safely in PEI after a long drive, where the staff at the clinic have performed a variety of tests and are closely monitoring Marley before her surgery tomorrow.

Several months ago, Beth and Darryl lost Marleys beloved older brother Jake after a long and painful journey. Jake had battled complications from diabetes and underwent several expensive treatments and surgery before passing away.

The grief of losing Jake is still very fresh and now they are fighting for Marleys life too.

Marley is more than just a pet - she is their family, companion, and their four legged best friend. Anyone who has met Marley knows the love and joy she brings into a room.

We are asking for your help to ease the financial burden on Bethany and Darryl so they can focus on Marleys recovery. Donations will help cover the cost of Marleys emergency appointment in Sydney, extensive testing, hospitalization, surgery, and gas and hotel fees associated with travelling the long distance to PEI.

Thank you so much for you kindness, generosity and support of Marley, Beth and Darryl.
