Hello, my name is Shante M. I am a second year pharmacy student, searching financial assistance to remain in pharmacy school and to stay on track to complete my dream of being a Pharmacist. I started this journey on 2006 at Southeastern Louisiana University, at the end of my spring semester. Of 2008, I contracted Neisseria bacterial meningococcal meningitis. This delayed my undergraduate studies to pursue a pharmacy technician certification because of the life saving pharmaceutical treatments I received. I spent the next 12 years practicing as a pharmacy technician while pursuing my bachelor’s degree .I have worked in nearly every hospital within the New Orleans Metropolitan area during this time, including working the entire Covid 19 pandemic. In May of 2021, I was accepted into pharmacy school and in August of 2021 I started pharmacy school. It was a very rough start, due to Hurricane Ida and a Covid surge during the end of the Fall semester. I was already experiencing anxiety from working during the height of the pandemic. My anxiety increased due to ptsd from from Hurricane Katrina and meningitis. I was overwhelmed with trying to adjust to graduate school and the challenges that came along with recovering from a Hurricane. I fell behind in my courses during the fall semester. I was allowed to repeat courses I didn’t perform well in and was advised to seek counseling. I started counseling in the February of this year and it assisted me with dealing with my anxiety. I was still behind in my curriculum so I paid out of pocket to take a course in the summer. I received an A in that course which put me in good academic standing, but I still needed a financial aid appeal. I reached out to my counselor to provide a statement to support my appeal but I was unable to receive that statement. As an alternative to the letter, I requested my official medical record. The medical records were not received by financial aid committee, so my financial aid appeal was not reviewed. I attempted to get a private loan to cover my tuition for this semester but was denied do you my student loan debt. I reached out to my support system to co-sign the loan but they were also denied. I have started this GoFundMe so I can cover my tuition cost for this semester to I can remain on track and complete my goal of becoming a pharmacist. I know God would not have lead me to this place if I would not be able to complete this goal. I am humbly asking for you help. Thank you
