Dear family, friends, and community,
I'm writing to request your support as well as urgent prayers for our beloved Henry: father, husband, grandfather, Vietnam veteran and friend to so many. Henry has been battling lymphoma for a number of years now as a result of exposure to Agent Orange in the Vietnam War. After a couple years of blessed remission, Henry's lymphoma returned in multiple locations and a separate tumor was removed right after Thanksgiving from his ureter resulting in an external nephrostomy tube coming out of his kidney, causing additional complications. As a result, he has been in and out of the hospital since this past November.
Most recently, it was also discovered that Henry has a 4 cm brain tumor in his frontal cortex. He is currently at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto and is receiving around-the-clock care. Due to the recent Covid surges, the VA hospital is not allowing any visitors in, so his wife Erin has not been able to be present with him. The hope is that Henry will be released overnight on Sunday to be with Erin before he has a surgery to attempt removal of the brain tumor.
After the surgery, Henry will still be needing around-the-clock at-home care, which has been estimated by his hospital social worker to cost up to $20,000 per month.
During this Covid surge, the usual options, like possible adult daycare several days a week are not available and his medical team would prefer discharging as soon as possible in order to limit Covid exposure as well.
Your donation will provide funding for Henry's at-home care for two months. Erin is self-employed as a marriage and family therapist, and is currently not eligible for any sort of FMLA or other government funded benefits. Your funding will allow Erin to pay others to keep Henry safe so that she can work from her home office, be present with Henry, and continue to pay their mortgage and other costs of living during this challenging time.
