Our puppy is fighting for her life. What started as gagging and seeming unwell turned into her becoming flat and unresponsive within hours. After rushing between vets and specialists, we’ve learned she now may need emergency open chest surgery if they cannot resolve the issue with antibiotics.
The vets found pus in her chest (pyothorax), likely from inhaling something that caused a severe infection in her lungs. They are still running tests to give her the best possible outcome, and surgery is set to go if there is no other option. Without it, the infection will spread and be fatal. We are hopeful that whatever is in her lungs can be resolved without surgery but we are still anxiously waiting for the vets to decide over the next few days as her case is an odd one.
She is the sweetest, most beautiful-natured dog we’ve ever known. We’ve never felt so connected to a puppy—she truly looks at you as if she sees into your soul. She’s incredibly intelligent, playful, and deeply bonded with our senior dog. The thought of losing her is unbearable.
We’ve covered what we can, but the costs are overwhelming. We’re asking for help so she can stay in critical care, and have the life-saving procedures she desperately needs.

UPDATE:
Star is feeling better, we are waiting on updated scans to see if surgery is still needed as her vets are trying their best to avoid it. Our little girl is doing her best to get better, with hopes of no foreign body in her lungs there may be hope to avoid the surgery and hope she can heal without it and stay in care/ strict bed rest for a few weeks. We are still unsure on the future but we are keeping high hopes for the best possible outcome!
Everyone’s donations are bringing such warmth to the situation and we feel so unbelievably lucky for the generosity and care of others. With our donations we can afford to give Star more time in the hospital receiving the treatment she needs.
