Turning Tragedy into Hope

Donation protected
On November 15, 2014, Max and Bailey Dressner will celebrate their Bar and Bat Mitzvah and begin the process of transitioning towards their adult lives.

As part of this Jewish rite of passage, Max and Bailey have decided to undertake a Mitzvah project. “Mitzvah” is Hebrew word meaning commandment or good deed. For their project, Max and Bailey are raising money to support two young girls who lost their father at a very young age.

Rayshone Myers was a good friend of Max and Bailey’s mom, Lisa. Rayshone worked for several years as a mentor to inner city teenage boys at Affinity Counseling Group, Lisa’s family therapy practice. He was also a business owner, and a devoted father, son, nephew, uncle, coach and friend to many. Sadly, he died at 28, killed in an auto accident by a speeding motorist.

Rayshone spent a lot of time at the Dressner household, and shared many happy times with Max, Bailey and the rest of the family. To honor his memory, Max and Bailey will run in the Asbury Park 5K on August 9th, 2 days before the 2nd anniversary of Rayshone’s passing. Max and Bailey are seeking sponsorships for their run and hope to raise enough money to start College Savings Plans for Rayshone’s daughters, Rayana and Ayana.

Rayshone’s life was devoted to bettering the lives of others, and especially those closest to him. He reminded everyone around him, “if anything ever happens to me, look after my girls, make sure they succeed in life.” Rayana and Ayana’s mom, Charlene, is doing a wonderful job of raising the girls, but it’s not easy being a single mother of two.

Rayana says that she wants to be a nurse or a doctor when she grows up. Ayana is thinking of becoming an actress. Please consider making a contribution of $5, $10, $25 or whatever you can afford, and you can play a small role in helping Rayana and Ayana reach for their dreams.
