Hi, my name is Caroline Drolet; I am raising money for a five-week-old kitten named Dodie to have eye surgery as she will be put down if she does not have it. The kitten was found by some friends of mine in the University of South Carolina athletic village (which is where her name came from). I am a senior here and took the kitten in because they could not keep her. She is the sweetest and cuddliest little baby. I took her to the vet as soon as possible, and she is overall very healthy, except she has a birth defect called Eyelid Agenesis. She has a pretty severe case of it, as it is in both eyes. This defect means that she does not have top eyelids; therefore, her eyelashes are constantly scratching and irritating her eyes and can damage her cornea to where she cannot see in the long run, and she is frequently in pain. Her vet gave me an antibiotic and a lubricant to help her with pain and keep the infection out. After she finishes her kitten shots (at about 16 weeks old), she can have surgery on her eyelids to fix them. However, I am a college student and cannot afford to pay for this myself as it is an estimated surgery cost between $3000-$4000 since she has it in both of her eyes. Unfortunately, if she does not have the surgery, she will have to be put down because it is unfair to keep her in that much pain for the rest of her life.
