Many of you have met our 6 year old resident rescued cow Bertha, devoted mama to Antonio who was born on our property not 5 months ago. She desperately needs our help.
When we rescued her, she was pregnant with Antonio and had a growth on the right side of her face. It didn't seem bothersome so we chose to just monitor it while she gave birth to - and began raising - her baby boy. In late January we realized it was still growing and she needed medical attention immediately. After undergoing 4 weeks of intense antibiotic and draining treatment in close medical supervision, away from her baby boy Antonio for the first time in his life, we're told she has Lumpy Jaw disease. It's caused by a bacterium Actinomyces bovis, and with her case having returned with a vengeance after treatment, will be fatal if left untreated. Her second opinion vet says she must be transported to the University of Florida vet hospital in Gainesville for surgery, which will cost upwards of $3,000, not including transportation.
She is eating well and demonstrating a strong will to live, as would any mama who has a young one depending on them! What a blessing it's been to have them both here, knowing they're safe, well cared for and surrounded by loving humans. Their former home - in the owners words - would have just "turned her into hamburger meat" by now. She has a real chance at a long, loving life with her baby boy, fellow resident chickens, pigs, goats, bunnies, a turtle and a cat! And of course us oogling humans who love to pet, groom and feed her. She deserves a long life, pain-free filled with love and joy.
Can you please help us reach our goal? If all of our followers just donated even $3.50 we could meet it! It will literally mean the world to her and her 5 month old baby boy, who's been so brave while his mama's been away. Thank you for your hearts and time. The love in this community affirms that we're on the right path, supporting love and compassion for all beings. We all want to live a life free from suffering and surrounded by love.
Thank you for helping Bertha and Antonio experience this as well.
Yours in love and gratitude,
Daney
