Help Bmatt Beat Cancer-
Late October 2018, while living in Chicago working towards her PsyD (Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology) at Adler University, Brittany started experiencing chest pains. She went to the doctor to get checked out and they found a mass. As a seemingly healthy 23 year old, this was a shock to all of us. After a ton of blood tests and a biopsy, the results came back as Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Within the week, Brittany had to pull out of school and move back to Charlotte, NC for treatment at Levine's Cancer Institute.
November 5th Brittany had a port put in for chemo, and on November 7th, she had her first treatment. Because one of the masses is on her heart, radiation is not an option. Her treatment plan has consisted of 12 chemotherapy sessions, every two weeks, with a plethora of scans, shots, and infusions throughout. It's been extremely expensive and insurance is denying most of the claims for her treatment, leaving a huge financial burden on her family.
Brittany's last chemo session is April 10th, and she will be surrounded by family and friends cheering for her as she brings this portion of her fight to a close. However, the fight never stops. This will always be a part of her and will no doubt shape the therapist she becomes once she's able to return to school and complete her PsyD.
Brittany has dedicated her life to helping others, but it's our turn to help her. She is one of the most caring, genuine, kind-hearted people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and loving. My greatest wish is for her to beat Hodgkin's Lymphoma and be able to return to Adler University to continue her passion for mental health care and changing the stigma that surrounds it.
