A precious and incredibly loved Bluffton family needs our help. Following an uneventful and normal pregnancy, on Tuesday, September 5th, Ackeem Chambers and Jessica Toomer Chambers welcomed their 4th child; a beautiful and seemingly healthy baby boy named Kashton Amir Chambers. The delivery was normal and

uneventful and Baby Kashton did so well in his first few days of life. Mom, dad, and baby were released home on Thursday, September 7th. Around 7am the very next morning, while Jessica's mom (Tina) and sister (Jamie) were visiting, Kashton suddenly stopped breathing while being held. Aunt Jamie, who thankfully is an amazing nurse, immediately began CPR and continued to do so until paramedics arrived. Kashton was initially taken to a local hospital, stabilized, and then transferred to a Pediatric NICU department at a larger Children’s Hospital. Upon arrival in the PICU, the doctors immediately began assessing Kashton and his condition. We

have since learned that his blood sugar levels were extremely low and have been very difficult to maintain since with no concrete explanation as to why. Kashton's doctors are working very closely with geneticists and metabolic specialists in Philadelphia, Atlanta and Charleston to pin down a

diagnosis and therefore be able to begin treatment. Baby Kashton is still hospitalized

and requiring continuous treatment and monitoring of glucose levels. The rarity of his

symptoms has caused a huge delay in a diagnosis and an incredible amount of stress for his family. Most of his labs and tests have to be sent to outside labs and due to the rarity of his still yet unknown condition, can take weeks to get results. While Ackeem and Jessica are staying at an out-of-state hospital with Kashton, the extended family has shared in the duties of caring for their other 3 children, Nevaeh (14), DJ (8), and Aviana

(2). The donations received from this fundraiser will assist in the exorbitant amount of

unexpected expenses that come along with situations like these, and will also assist in

medical and travel expenses for Kashton to ultimately get the care he needs. During this time, Ackeem & Jessica have been unable to work and this fundraiser will relieve the financial

burden and allow them to focus solely on Kashton's recovery.

It goes without saying that Kashton's grandparents, Larry and Tina Toomer (and their entire family), are some of the most loving, giving and kindhearted people you'll ever meet. They truly embody the spirit of the town of Bluffton. Personally, my heart goes out to them and I know I speak for so many in the Lowcountry who know and love them when I say that we are HERE to help and WANT to help, as they have done for so many so often. If a monetary donation is not feasible, prayers ALWAYS are and the family asks that you include them and most especially Baby Kashton in yours as often as you possibly can.
