This fall/winter, Blue Scorpion Dance Theater is taking a long hard look at the world today. Where we are, where we came from, and how we got here. Falling Apart is a story told in 4 movements: Hope, Reality, Dispair/Sorrow, and Dysfunction. Using events of the past 100 or so years of social, economic, political, and racial history.
BSDT aims to make a statement about how we've travelled from "The Greatest Generation", the moon landing, civil rights, and great goals of love and service here and throughout the world; to "The Me Generation", rampant violence in the guise of self defence, and reality television in the guise if "news".
The common thread throughout all of this history is the age-old battle of "good" vs. "evil". Not being a person who believes in either good or evil, I'm taking the tack of faith/hope/love/generosity vs. fear/anger/frustration/depression/neglect. And how our individual struggles and aspirations effect our society as a whole, because that is what society is, us: the rich the poor, the artists, scientists, businessmen and women, politicians, scholars, homeowners, workers, lovers, fighters, and the list goes on.
Enough about that, there are 10 of us who dedicate our time, energy, work, and talents to BSDT; for me it's a labor of love and an opportunity to share my gifts as a teacher/mentor/artist with others, but for the other 9 performing this is how they pay their rent. It's a tough calling, I did it myself for just over a decade in my youth. They all have highly refined skill sets and educations, significant inventments of time and money into developing their craft, and they deserve to be compensated for their work. We couldn't do this without them. I'm reaching out to you all for a small contribution to aid in helping to fund them and all the gifts they bring to us (who doesn't like meeting up with the professional artist at the party) in and out of the studio, on and off the stage.
The first drafts of Falling Apart are premiering this fall: first, 1 of the movements, "Reality" will be performed alongside the Dance Wright Project at Dance Mission Theater on Oct 22nd and 23rd. Then it's first full sketch premieres at SAFEhouse for the Arts on November 2nd and 3rd.
Thank you all for the time you've taken to check this out. Please tell your friends, and I hope to see you at one of our performances this fall.
Lots of love,
Frederick
