Blue Needs Knee Surgery

What Happened...

On the Monday morning of June 15th, Alicia received a call from Blue's daycare informing her that Blue had become injured and was struggling to put weight on his back leg. After a day's rest, Blue's limp began to worsen, and she decided to have him looked at by the veterinarian. She learned that Blue had torn his left 'CCL' (like an ACL in humans) and that he would require both surgery to repair the damage and months of rehabilitation post-operation.

To add insult to injury, the pet insurance company that Alicia has been paying for, for the last two years, will not cover any of his expenses; in fact, they required that prior to the injury, her veterinarian must've noted on Blue's file that his legs were well and intact. Of course, since Blue has not ever had an issue with his legs before, her vet didn't make comments during his check-ups that specifically referenced his back legs 'working well.' This loophole in the insurance policy means that she needs to pay $4,500.00, out of pocket, for the surgery alone. On top of this, there will be a further cost, in the hundreds-of-dollars range, for Blue's rehabilitation and exam follow-ups post-operation.

Without this surgery, it's likely that Blue's other hind leg will become injured with the same CCL tear caused by overcompensation and stress on his intact muscles.


Our Goal...

With any savings that she already has and with the help from her friends and family so far, Alicia doesn't have the funds to get Blue the surgery he needs. I set up this online fundraiser so that others who know her and Blue, and who are financially able, can help support them to get Blue the surgery and medical attention he needs in time!

As some of you may know, Alicia is a huge animal lover and someone who's put everything she has into caring for Blue. I know that more than anything, she wants him to be healthy and back to his usual goofy self!


Our Closing Thanks.

Alicia is beginning the lengthy process of fighting with her insurance company to cover some of the costs in spite of the lack of coverage. That said, the funds raised will be used to cover just some of the costs of Blue's surgery; as well as, any other uncovered or related medical expenses from his injury such as follow-up examinations, medications, rehabilitation appointments, or even the possibility medical devices i.e. harness, brace, etc.. Moreover, the funds are needed as soon as possible in order to have his injury looked after in a timely manner.
