Help Save Blue the Emu – Emergency Surgery Needed.

Blue is our sweet 5-month-old emu who has been part of our family since he was just 3 weeks old. He’s curious, funny, and even protects our chickens like a little guardian. But now, Blue is facing the fight of his life… without surgery, he won’t be able to walk again.

I chose him because he was the runt of the clutch… but he grew into a protector, helper and entertainer. He’s grown into a curious and funny bird… he tries to help with house repairs, picks up tools, and even chases our cat away from the chickens to protect them. Blue is truly part of our family, not just a farm animal.

Blue injured his leg. At first, we thought it could be reset, but after sedation the vet showed us the ligaments are too damaged to hold his hock (upper ankle) in place. Without surgery, he cannot live a normal life.

Surgery details: The procedure will cost between $3,000–$5,000. It could give Blue the chance to walk, run, and live out his natural 25+ year life.

Without this, our only other option would be humane euthanasia… and we’re not ready to give up on him.
