Dear Blue Moon Family and Friends,
As I write this letter, it is with a heavy heart, but it’s also for the love of the moon. It was 25 years ago today that Blue Moon opened its doors, with a strong commitment to its community offering fresh organic whole foods. Since then, and to today, we have been pioneers in the real food movement. From serving the first roll-up, (we called them Mountain Girl Roll Ups!) to opening Exeter’s first yoga studio, offering the first green smoothie, the best salad bar, first farm to table restaurant in the area. The only one that has been committed to organic growing practices since its inception. All the while teaching for decades, from cooking classes, here at the restaurant, to local elementary schools doing enrichment programs, middle school, high schools, UNH, to high school cafeteria staff we have educated our community about healthy eating. For the past 10 years I have partnered with Tracey Miller offering programs such as the Food & Health Forum dinner lecture series, educating our community on the local food system, to Dig In Wellness program. Presently I’m staying sane and Tracey and I are offering a free program called Stronger Together a health and wellness program, I invite you to join me on the Facebook platform. More importantly, I’ve been crafting the long-awaited Blue Moon cookbook titled For the Love of the Moon. Blue Moon has grown and thrived with your love and support. And we thank you. OK here’s the difficult part.. the ask. The reality is that, “We’re in a tough spot” with restaurants closing, folding around us. It has been 6 weeks since our shut down, and the 4 weeks prior we witnessed a severe, steady decline in business. We have held fast but with the uncertainty of any financial funding for our small ship in this fierce storm, the time has come for us to ask for support from our community. Evolution is essential at this point. How do we move forward? The answer; We will stay true to our roots, committed to family, to community, to bringing the best food we can find to the table. We look forward to a healthy vibrant community, with healthy vibrant food offerings, generations gathering over a good bowl of soup, a place where we know our farmers, with music in the air, in an atmosphere of love and respect. Is this too much to ask? Is the will there? My grandmother used to say, “Some people say where there’s a will there’s a way”. I say, “Where there’s a will there are six ways!”. Well I raise the bar and declare “Where there’s a will there are infinite ways”. Our will is to return, we too, like mother earth, are resilient. We will give it everything we have to return. We will persevere. I close in gratitude, gratitude for all the years of fun, celebration, support, and gratitude for growing with us. Gratitude for allowing us to be a part of your community. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
In peace,
