I adopted Sasha, a beautiful, super intelligent Blue Heeler mix from a good rescue group in 2018. She was afraid of so many things, and I promised to always help and protect her. Sasha is now 4.5 years old.
Friday morning 2 weeks ago, she was leaning ever so slightly to the left when walking. I made a vet appointment for that afternoon. By the time we arrived, she had difficulty walking and was in pain.
The vet believed Sasha had Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), category 2, and an MRI and surgery were recommended. By 11 pm, she had no use of her back legs at all. IVDD can go from a category 2 to a 5 within a day or more. If the surgery could be done right away, she'd have a 90-95% chance of recovery (category 5 has a 5% chance).
It was beyond heartbreaking to see our beautiful, young dog in pain and deteriorating so quickly in a span of twelve hours, knowing she'd soon be paralyzed.
Saturday morning we made calls until one hospital with a neurology department said to bring her in. Sasha went into surgery immediately after the MRI. It was a disc in the middle of her spine. She spent 2 days in the hospital, but left walking on all 4 legs. It's a slow recovery process with a month of crate rest, meds, etc. She is doing very well, and we are so grateful.
Full payment had to be made on the spot, so credit card limits were raised and maxed out. It was $8178.
Any donation towards the hospital bill is greatly appreciated, and prayers are always welcome.
Thank you,
