2020 has been a rough year for the Blue Coast Family. On July 4th the shop caught fire and the building is a complete loss. Shannan not only lost her business but she also lost her home. Sadly this tragic event happened just two weeks after the patriarch of the Blue Coast family Marc Burk passed away from a very short battle with cancer. We are grateful the entire family including the pets made it out safely.
Blue Coast Shop became Marc and Shannan’s home and business in 2015. It was their dream to live at the beach and they achieved this dream in the form a cute beachside rental shop. They moved across the country from California to be closer to the ocean for Shannan’s health too. The salt air is a blessing as Shannan has Cystic Fibrosis (a life shortening genetic lung disease).
In January of 2020 Marc was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and lost his battle June 18th. Shannan’s sole source of income was to be from the Blue Coast Shop.
After being open only four days due to the pandemic and Marc’s health the little shop burned. Fortunately the building is insured but unfortunately the inventory including all the rental equipment is not. Shannan needs to replace the entire fleet of paddle boards, bicycles, surfboards, boogie boards, and skim boards.
In the four years I have known Shannan I have watched her help numerous people and be an integral part of the community in Daytona Beach Shores. Shannan now needs your help to reopen the Blue Coast Shop. Thank you.
