Help My Best Friend Walk Again

This is Blue.
He's my adventure buddy, hiking partner, the King of Snugs, the goodest boy and my best friend. He is also paralysed - for now - by a trapped nerve. He needs surgery to get him back on his feet, back up mountains, and back to the the healthy 3 year old pup that he was before.
A little history:
10 weeks ago he suffered 2 herniated discs whilst on regular squirrel-bothering duty (he takes this duty very seriously). At that time, between the MRI and a few days in hospital, I maxed out his insurance and somehow found the rest of a £4k bill (i'm a student, it wasn't easy). He is worth every penny.
He improved over 6 weeks of 'restorative care' (that's restricted movement, ie. in a crate) and we then began hydrotherapy and 10 minute walks as advised. He was doing so well.
Last Sunday (25th Nov) I woke up to find him having tremors, paralysed, and lying in his own crap. It was fucking terrifying. Last night we got an emergency referral to a world class neurologist (regular vets don't do spinal surgery - just like with humans, you need a referral to see a specialist), and rushed for three hours to get there before they closed. They have kept Blue and he is going into surgery today. This kind of crisis could reoccur at any time without the surgery. He went from being well to incontinent and paralysed overnight.
I have done a lot of fundraising in the past ( for marathons etc), mainly as an ambassador for Cancer Research UK, but never for my own cause. And when it comes to people crowdfunding for their pets, truthfully I have sometimes thought 'you should've got insurance'. Well, I have insurance and it gets wiped out in a flash. I don't feel comfortable asking for donations, but if it's a question of my comfort or Blue's wellbeing, then he wins.
Blue is a dream. He is the most affectionate dog i've ever met. I wake up with his nose to mine. And he's just a baby. I have to help him, this is just a trapped nerve ffs.
The bill will be £6000+. I have emptied my account, and taken a loan, but I need help. I work a lot, but as I said, I'm still studying.
