"Bloody, Bloody Coda" a Giallo horror short film
Donation protected
An aging Opera singer recovering from vocal cord surgery must fight back against a home invasion, but if she calls for help she will lose her voice forever.
The fear of aging, mortality and the battle with one's ego is at the heart of my newest short film: "Bloody, Bloody Coda." A Neo-Giallo horror film filled with terror, opera and lots of blood!
My name is Matthew S. Robinson; I am an award-winning writer and director out to make a pivotal short film. I first came up with the idea for this short film years ago, and was set to make it in the summer of 2020. We all know how that year went.
So now I am back, ready to take this project on with a talented production team and a tremendous cast. However, to create this project I need some help. That's where you come in as a donor. I got laid off from my job this summer, but I still need to pay the cast, crew and insurance for this production. We are using some gnarly practical makeup special effects and performing some fantastic stunt work. Our budgetary needs must be met to ensure everyone is paid and safe. I humbly ask for your generous donations of any amount for "Bloody, Bloody Coda."
Think of this page as a way to check on the project, donate, ask me questions and see what makes this short film so unique. Below I have posted my various inspirations, storyboards, and other logs of my creative process. Please join our journey today and help make "Bloody, Bloody Coda" a bloody success!
Aesthetics Board
I claim no ownership over the photos shown above; they
were simply used as tools for inspiration.
I was heavily inspired by the works of Giallo style horror, popularized by Italian filmmaker Dario Argento. This style uses heavily saturated colors and lots of blood and has a poetic tone to its visual style. With the main character being an opera singer, I felt something very dramatic and tense needed to be used for the aesthetics. I also was influenced by the works of Caravaggio, Artemisia Gentileschi and Nicola Samori.
Storyboards
I wouldn't ask people to donate unless I was confident in my abilities and also prepared for the production. I have spent a great deal of time plotting out every shot, moment, costume, prop, etc., to create the most compelling story possible.
Please excuse my lack of drawing skills (I promise it's not a 1:1 transfer of my directing abilities) and look at these storyboards I drew, and one noticeably better that I had commissioned by Jason Towne years ago.
There will be more updates and news within the coming weeks. In the meantime, I wanted to thank you all for taking the time to consider donating to my short film. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
With gratitude,
Matthew S. Robinson
