Blonde Bush Bashers - Mongol Rally 2022

The Mongol Rally  Challenge

Just two #blondebushbashers setting off on the adventure of a lifetime driving in what can only be described as a shitbox of a vehicle from the UK across 30 countries to Ulan Ude, all in the name of mother nature, mental health research and adventure.

In just five weeks during July and August, we (we is a loose term as only one of us is capable of driving manual) will drive a 1L “car” worth less than a good night out in London through some of the world’s most dangerous but stunning and untouched terrain.

Not for the sensible or the faint-hearted.

It’s at the cutting edge of stupidity, but it’s the DADDY of all adventures.

Just a Pair of Dickheads Looking for Some Adventure

About us… well it all started as a Spareroom friendship a couple of years ago. A drunken Facetime chat and Hetti was at Emily’s door a few hours later with her life in a car. Our friendship blossomed through Tuesday wine nights, outrageous themed parties, #EMHBSG #scootscoot and plenty of other mischief...which we won’t go into here.

With sadness and excitement, we’re hanging up the scoot scoot hashtag for the much more exciting #BLONDEBUSHBASHERS! What’s a few broken bones on London roads when you have the opportunity to take on a potentially life-threatening trip across the world.

As Mark Twain once said “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience”.

Hear, hear!

About Us

Hetti is a 27-year-old 'relatively' posh Sussex girl. She’s pretty much useless at most things, but specifically organisation, planning and maintaining attention (unless it's on the road of course). The one skill she does possess – she can drive a manual box on wheels. She is also notorious for mustering up a banging playlist, so the trip tunes are well and truly covered…for as long as the batteries last. Beware, HB isn't a fan of small chat, and is known to chew ears off and rant heavily about society, psychology, biology, theology, philosophical ideas, the potential depths of consciousness; unfortunately the list goes on (Em is one lucky gal…).

Emily is a 33-year-old Aussie who came to London seven years ago and the UK hasn't been able to get rid of her since. She can’t drive manual, meaning she is pretty much futile on the Rally. Cheers to Hetti for keeping her anyway! Luckily organised chaos is Em’s forte – she’s always mustering up an extravagant plan whether it be for charity, work, or especially play. She’s a keen advocate for saving the planet – don’t f*** with her recycling. She’s always nagging Hetti about her dietary choices ('Get some calcium down you!'), although when it comes to the weekend, she doesn’t have a leg to stand on. She’s also not too bad on the maps and logistics.

“Adventure doesn’t happen following a nob with a flag; it happens when you’re lost.”

What could possibly go wrong with no set route, no help and no experience that is relevant in any way AT ALL. I mean these two dickheads can barely change a tyre.

Donate and follow to watch the shitshow unfold.

Our Charities

We passionately believe that the two biggest issues that our world is currently facing are climate and mental health and we want to be a small part of the solution, so our chosen charities are Cool Earth and MQ.

Cool Earth  exists because the world is in a climate crisis. The most effective way to fight back is to protect the best carbon-storing technology that already exists: rainforests. And the best way to do that? Back, support, and listen to the people living there. Indigenous peoples and local communities have lived in balance with rainforest for thousands of years and are the real rainforest experts. They are people who face extreme injustice whilst living on the front line of the climate crisis. Cool Earth champions the relationship between people, rainforest and climate. They support rainforest communities, by funding projects that create choice, tackle the root causes of deforestation and protect vital carbon sinks.

MQ Mental Health Research  has a vision is to create a world where mental illnesses are understood, effectively treated and one day made preventable. It funds multi-disciplinary research into mental health, across the spectrum of biological, psychological and social sciences. The charity was created in 2013, with initial funding from the world-renowned Wellcome Trust.

“If you break down, find a way to fix it, buy a horse or start walking. If you want to know someone is helping you get to the finish line then the Mongol Rally is not for you. But if you’re here to get slapped about the jowls with the gauntlet of adventuring chaos you’ve found your calling."
