BLK WINS: Project Launch

Check out the video above for an introduction to BLK WINS!

What is BLK WINS?

BLK WINS strives to be a direct resource for Black people, specifically Black youth, to discover and identify who we truly are, where we come from, and how we got here. Our aim is to not only educate our current generation, but to also pass this on to our future generations to come.

Traditional American history has tried to erase our advancement and has highlighted our trauma and plight, rather than our strengths, successes and wins.

Our goal with this project is to be that book of knowledge so that no other Black child has to believe all we have is slavery and the civil rights movement to define who we are. By deconstructing and dismantling the way Black history has been taught, we are introducing a new narrative that is an honest reflection on our Black identity.

Our Product
BLK WINS will be a collection of free videos that explore a multitude of events in our Black History. Featuring 2D animation, fresh perspectives, and in-person interviews with individuals who have had first hand encounters with the events, The Black History project will bridge the gap between the past and the present for not only young Black people, but for anyone who takes an interest in Black history.

Attention Span Conscious - We will include engaging visuals, dynamic topics relevant to our culture's history, and a unique soundtrack that can be set to perform across various social media platforms—all while running under 10 minutes.

Research Driven - We will showcase our investigative research process by giving a "behind the scenes" look while conducting our research and doing our 1st-person interviews. We want viewers to feel like they're in the room with us during interviews and will provide as many citations as possible in order to build trust and highlight our transparency.

For Us, By Us - One of the biggest things that we want our audience to take away from this project is that this is something we made for each other—through the collective and relevant experiences of our history, education, and lifestyle.

Funding
We are aiming to raise $10,000 to help reinforce this project's needs with advertising, outsourcing, travel, and ancillary production support. All extra funds donated will go towards our marketing budget, contractors, and increased production value in higher quality equipment.

Should we not reach our campaign goal, we will invest the accumulated funds into our existing budget and use it to cover basic needs, along with travel for 8 episodes.

So why BLK WINS?
Currently, we do not have a resource that is easily accessible to young people to learn our history. Our lessons are passed down through generations from elders in the family/community or word of mouth.

Our learning platform allows our audience to choose their preference on how they learn best. Whether they desire a summarized version (social media, Tik-Tok) or longer in-depth version (YouTube, Podcast) they're able to learn at their own pace at any given time.

Instead of being defined by our trauma, our aim is to switch the narrative and highlight historical Black milestones. We want to reignite that sense of pride for our race, and ultimately bridge the gap between our past and our present.

With your donation, you are supporting BLK WINS vision: to create a space, and ultimately accessibility, for Black youth to learn about their history in order to make a greater impact their lives and provide a unique resource they've never seen before.

Knowledge is Power.
