It probably goes without saying that Blitzy von Twinkle Toes is the single, most important living being in my life by leaps and bounds (sorry to my dog, Pippa). Never have I made, nor will I make, a better decision than when I rescued him 15 years ago off of Craig's List from my dorm room in my resistance to study. As most of you know, he's lived with me in 4 different states and accompanied me on thousands of miles of adventures, including train, plane, dirt trails, and living out of my car for a month in the dead of a northwestern winter - all willingly and lovingly so, without ever a leash in hand and preferably in my lap. More than a dream cat, he is my best friend and we have a bond that I, for better or for worse, can't imagine ever having again with another... living being.
I'm devastated to say that Blitzy's health has been on the decline due to a culmination of liver, pancreas, and intestinal issues that includes pancreatitis as well as the potential for GI cancer (see attached estimate for his latest bout of procedures, which doesn't include resulting care and medication). He has lost half his weight due to his inability to digest nutrients (in my horrific coping skills, I've likened his appearance to a bad taxidermy job) and is extraordinarily yellow due to jaundice from misplaced bile. But, the majestic animal he is, Blitzy is still romping around the neighborhood most of the day enjoying the summer sunshine and fresh dirt rolls. He is still yelling at me for Fancy Feast and to be brushed around the clock, which gives me the confidence to seek monitary help for the cat who has so much life left despite the odds against him. If I'm positive of anything, he's fighting to stay with me because he feels my heart breaking. I don't need no man except for him.
To date, his medical bills have cost upwards of $20,000 and as difficult as it is for me to ever ask for help, there is no greater cause I can think of to pull this card for than to save my best friend. I have woken up to him licking my face and steadfastly demanding love almost every day for the past 15 years and suffice it to say, particularly due to my mental health struggles, I need to keep it going for as long as I can because he continues to save my life. I truly believe he has years left in him if these procedures are successful, which include:
- 3 biopsies (of his liver, pancreas, and intestines)
- gall bladder removal
- (temporary) feeding tube installation
- medication & specialized diet
He is being seen by some of the best veteranarians at CASE Boulder and they are hopeful that we can rule out cancer (he has already tested negative for lymphoma of the liver). For what it's worth, if he does test positive, I will not be pursuing chemotherapy. Otherwise, his quality of life should go back to normal albeit with natural signs of aging and the added stress of his medical care.
I am not asking for coverage of the full costs but anything helps and I will do everything in my power to pay it forward. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your help and at the least, I ask that you keep this most special kitty in your hearts.
Love always,
Leann, Pippa, and Leann's Wallet
