Myself and my best friend are raising £1,000 by walking from Lands End to John O' Groats. I will split the money between Maggies Cancer Charity & Military Vs Cancer Charity.
We have given ourselves a 3 week limit starting 07th April 2025 to walk an estimate of 874 miles. This is 40 miles a day, every day for 21 consecutive days.
In July 2024 my childrens dad was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. We also found out he has a tumour on his lung and very recently (March 2025) we have found out the cancer has now spread to his liver. He will start his second lot of chemotherapy on the same date as i start my walk. It has been a hard time navigating everything. Nathan has so far had a 5 week course of radiotherapy everyday. A 12 week course of intravenous and tablet form of chemotherapy and he will now start his second lot of chemotherapy which will last 2 days every 2 weeks for the forseeable. Where nathan has has to go for his hospital visits for treatment, nowhere signposts where to go for help with money or support during this difficult time. I rang many charities hitting a brick wall with noone offering help or advice until I rang military vs cancer, they took the time to listen and sent an email later that day explaining everything they could help with. My children's dad has also spoke to them and they have helped him aswell.
Where Nathans treatment is taking place, there is a charity called maggies. Military vs cancer recommended this charity and I chose to visit the building at Nottingham city whilst Nathan was having one of his many scans. They straight away sat down and took time to speak to me, they rang nathan the next day to speak about any financial worries he had and how they could help. They have given us a timetable with groups to go to for Nathan himself which he has attended a few as well as myself and the children. The childen attended a lovely families day where they were around other children going theough the same tĥing. They have made everything seem so much clearer and made us all feel not so alone.
