Bleu’s end of life care

It’s with a body filled with grief that we have to let our friends family and supporters know that we are moving forward in a way that honors Bleus comfort and spirit.

We have made the difficult decision to move forward with a humane euthanasia for Bleu. We will be performing it at home where he can be surrounded by love and the comfort of home.

We encourage our loved ones to let us know what food he should try on our last day as we plan to treat him to the best his short life has to offer. He will be getting his nose print, paw print and cremation.

Please if you donated outside of your own means let us know and we can make sure the money gets back to you ❤️ we appreciate the love and support

thank you for everyone who so generously donated, at the end of the day to give him the care and support he would need we would require a financial miracle. We are going to give him the best we have and make sure he makes it to his birthday and gets to open his presents and be at home for his final days.

Original: I’m where every pet parent dreads to be. Bleu is a happy healthy pup until about 12 hours ago.

The first sign was pain getting into the car. We brushed it off as his old knee injury acting up in the cold. He is a Southern California rescue dog experiencing his first real winter after all.

This morning he was painful when I was examining the old injured leg, but it’s Saturday and his vet opens Monday so my partner stayed home while I went to work.

Then my partner woke up from a nap and he was struggling to get up and lie down. I left work immediately but by the time I got home 10 minutes later it progressed to me having to carry him to the car and race to the vet.

Hes currently at stage 3/4 (as of 12/7 he is now fully paralyzed with no sensation in the rear) of rear end paralysis. And I’m holding back tears unsuccessfully in the vets office waiting to take him home overnight because we can’t afford the surgery and tonight’s overnight stay.

He sees the neurologist in the morning but between the meds the surgeries the examination fees and the 3 day surgery recovery we are looking at a hot 15k surprise right before Christmas.

His prognosis with the surgery is 90-95% chance he will improve, without surgery but other medical intervention we drop to 60%, without any of that we are looking at a 5% chance of him recovering. Altogether with after care and extended hospital stay we are looking at 30k+

About Bleu:
I got Bleu from San Diego Humane when he was around 5 months old. He had demodectic mange and a lot of behavioral issues. I was starting out as a dog trainer and looking for a challenge and he 100% fit that bill. We treated his mange and I trained him tirelessly until he became the perfect coworker.
Bleu has helped countless dogs overcome their reactivity as my training aide, and even used him as a demo dog for training service dogs for people with disabilities. His hard work doesn’t stop there though. When I was at my lowest point I taught him how to respond to help me with deep pressure therapy to relieve my own anxiety as well as respond to my partners psychiatric needs. He’s truly been such an endless blessing. Everyone says their dog isn’t like other dogs, but in this case he truly is an outstanding pup, he even knows how to play the xylophone!!
He loves hikes and camping and meeting people and getting scratches on his face and butt. He’s such a happy guy and to see him like this is truly devastating.
