This is Brooks. He is 14 years old, full of life, and he “happies up a place” everywhere he goes. In 2024, he was the South Carolina State Mountain Biking champion in his division, and in 2025 he was named Offensive MVP of C-team baseball for his high school.
On August 9, 2025, Brooks was in a significant mountain biking accident while at practice that resulted in a bilateral acetabulum fracture—his pelvis was broken on both sides. This type of injury is rare in young boys and usually only seen in automobile or motorcycle accident victims.
Brooks spent 11 days in the hospital, underwent two major surgeries, and is now facing a year-long recovery: three months in a wheelchair, then a walker, then crutches. The greatest blessing is that he will walk again—and even run, jump, ride his bike, and play baseball. He is discovering God’s blessings in the midst of brokenness.
This GoFundMe is not for Brooks. Thanks to health insurance, much of his medical care is covered. Instead, Brooks and his family want to honor and support the emergency and healthcare professionals who met him in his brokenness and carried him toward healing. They also came alongside, and provided comfort for, Brooks’ parents in the midst of the scariest time in their lives.
The response to Brooks’ accident began when a Walhalla police officer, who was also a Certified Wilderness EMT, responded at the accident scene. He organized Walhalla Fire Department—both full-time and volunteer firefighters—to rescue Brooks from the trails. From there, trusted medical friends, orthopedic trauma surgeon Dr. J.D. Adams, and nurses Paige and Blakely, to name a few, provided extraordinary care.
How the Funds Will Be Used:
Brooks wants donations to go toward supporting the very people who make recoveries like his possible:
• Specialized rescue equipment for the Walhalla Volunteer Fire Department to use on mountain bike trails.
• Tuition assistance for nurses to complete their education and continuing education.
• Monetary support for nurses to use toward advanced nursing degrees and clinicals.
• Scholarship funds for men and women who are self-paying and wish to become certified wilderness first responders or EMTs.
Closing:
Brooks’ story reveals so many blessings coming from brokenness. His desire is simple: to give back to those who gave him a chance at recovery. Your generosity will strengthen the hands of the people who show up when lives hang in the balance.
Brooks’ favorite bible verse is 1 John 3:16 - This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. These donations will help those who lay down their lives for others. Thank you for joining Brooks in supporting these everyday heroes.
