Blessings for Sammy & Laurie La Mora

This fundraiser is dedicated to Sammy La Mora and is amazing wife (my mommy) Laurie. Sam has been diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure. A condition that is causing his kidneys to shut down on him. For months now his wife Laurie has been getting up with him at 4am to drive to dialysis appointments 3-4 times a week before she starts her work day. Treatments can be so stressful on a body that afterwards you have barely the strength to make it to your bed and most of the time leave you weak for the remainder of the day. While Sam lay at home trying to gather strength his wife is putting in 8-10hr days and smiling at everyone she sees. Giving hugs, praying for others and all the while exhausted and trusting God through this storm.
Several weeks ago hope bloomed when Sam went through some of the final tests to place him on the kidney transplant list. Unfortunately his name never made it there. Test results showed elevated PSA levels were so high that doctors requested a biopsy in order to rule out prostate cancer. All the while, Sam and Laurie's faith never waivers. They know that God is with them and anything is possible.
Before Sam is able to make his biopsy appointment he begins to feel off and knows that something is wrong. Back at the hospital doctors discover that at some point Sam has had a heart attack, most likely from the strain of the dialysis but we may never truly know. Doctors plan to put a stint in only to discover that he is going to need a quadruple bypass. Weak, scared and guided by their unwavering faith Laurie and Sam stay in the hospital together. Knowing they are strongest when they are together. Love never fails. Weeks pass and surgeries are performed. Finally, Sam can go home.
After being home for just a handful of days the doctor requests a follow up to check on Sams heart. At the appointment an x-ray is performed and an unhealthy level of fluid is now discovered in his lungs. Back to the hospital. Together. Again. Later that day the procedure is done and one whole liter of fluid is removed from Sam's lungs! How can lungs even hold that much fluid?
Here is where they are at currently...….. Sams blood pressure is too high and he's still not safe to leave the hospital without more dialysis. Doctors try to change his medicine and his BP bottoms out. The only way to keep his blood pressure down is to lay flat on his back but he can't because of the fluid attempting build back up in his lungs. So we wait and see what the next day will bring. God is in control and we ask that if it is His will poor Sam will have some answers and ultimately, healing.
My mother and stepfather are incredible people who would go the extra mile for anyone. Their church community and family members can vouch for the kindness, love and support that they show in their community daily. It is time that we all come together and help them. Sick time and vacation time don't last long and cutting a household income in half is a blow to anyone who has ever lived through the nightmare. I am confident that we can help support them financially while Sam focuses on getting better. The last thing that anyone needs at a time like this is to be secretly worried about the bills at home when they are supposed to be fighting and getting stronger.
Will you help them?
