My name is Marybeth and I am Brian's baby sister. I am writing something that is hard to share. Not just because it's a private battle that Brian is facing but also because I just am still in shock sharing it.
In October, Brian was diagnosed with Congestive heart failure and Colorectal Adenocarcinoma at 48 years young. While this may be a cancer that we hear about commonly hear spoken about, nothing feels common with cancer. The cancer which has spread to his lymph nodes and major organs is metastatic and will not be able to be treated. At this time Brian's heart is only pumping at 30% and he is fully unable to care for himself, leaving primary care to his mother and siblings/other family. Due to the rapid progression of his condition, Brian has been unable to work for over a year, therefore not having insurance or life insurance to assist him during this time. Physicians, hospitalizations and radiology bills are piling up as well as the loss of income for his mother while she maintains primary care for him. Brian has had several hospitalizations and for the foreseeable future will be at his mother's residence. Though we greatly appreciate and believe in the power of prayer, we have been informed that Brian will not survive this cancer and heart failure and that our days, weeks or hopefully months are limited with him.
His palliative care team has gotten everything set up i.e. home health and eventually hospice to keep him as comfortable as possible. I won't use this space to comment on medical insurance or universal healthcare for all....but I will say this: he needs our help. Please consider contributing so we can help Brian and his amazing family not stress about piling bills and funeral expenses. Rather, let them focus on the time they have left with their son, father, brother, uncle and other loved ones.
All funds will go towards medical expenses, assist in purchasing items he currently needs while he is in his families care, funeral expenses and any remaining amount will be given to his 21 year old son, Alex. With incredible gratitude we thank you for considering donating.
