Blessings for Adley
On December 2nd, five month old Adley was diagnosed with RSV after having a cough for over a week. Originally, her pediatrician believed she was nearing the end of her illness. Adley went to daycare the next day and a parent's nightmare unraveled. Adley's daycare teacher checked on her while she was napping and realized Adley's lips were purple, she was limp, and unresponsive. EMS was called and Ashley was rushed to Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton. Initial tests came back normal but during a nap that day, Adley developed a fever and had what clinicians thought was a febrile seizure. Adley was transferred to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg to be monitored.
Adley's frightened and anxious parents, Tyler and Courtney, stayed by her side through the night and woke up to her having several seizures. The medical staff transferred Adley to PICU and had to intubate her in order to administer seizure medications. The side-effects of these medications can stop respiration all together. Adley's poor little body endured over 10 seizures within an hour.
On Friday, December 6th, Adley's fever finally broke. On Saturday, MRIs confirmed the RSV caused encephalitis (inflammation in the brain). This is very rare and happens in one tenth of 1% of RSV cases. Adley started on a high dose of steroids. Her medical staff is monitoring her but advised Tyler and Courtney that Adley may have to be on anti-seizure medications for up to 3 months post discharge and may possibly have Cerebral Palsy. Unfortunately, at this time, there is no telling when Adley will return home.
Tyler, Courtney, Aidyn, Kyrie, and Adley, need our love, prayers, and support right now. With so much unknown at this time regarding recovery and healing, please join me in gifting anything you can to alleviate additional, unnecessary hardships.
