Stage IV Cancer and Heart Disease

Donation protected
The pain behind the smiles.

Pictured here is my sister Amanda "Mandy" Berry and her parents, Donald (my Dad) and Joan. They live a very modest life in Baltimore city, yet Donald and Joan are struggling with severe illnesses at the same time! It is very disheartening that Mandy, age 17, rising senior honors student at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, has to deal with the medical challenges of both parents simultaneously. And did I mention this is my dad also....

In September 2017, Joan was diagnosed with colon-rectal cancer that has since  spread to her liver, vaginal wall, and lymph nodes, and is now Stage IV. (A cancer is said to be in Stage IV when it has spread far away from the origin into other organs of the body. This progression is known as metastasis.) Joan has been undergoing chemotherapy since October 2017 and radiation treatments, along with chemotherapy, since April 2018.  Joan is fighting for her life daily!

On Tuesday morning, May 22, 2018, Donald experienced a heart attack due to a 95% artery blockage.  Joan was not at home at the time but at the hospital receiving cancer treatment. Donald (in distress) called a neighbor who, in turn, called an ambulance.  At the hospital, Donald underwent an emergency cardiac catheterization and a stint was placed in the blocked artery. Doctors told our dad that had his neighbor not acted as quickly, he would have passed away that day. Donald is currently undergoing treatment for coronary artery disease while experiencing severe breathing issues.  To God Be the Glory.

Due to the severity of these illnesses, Joan's and Donald's time at work has been, and will continue to be, severely limited. As a result, there are just not enough funds to handle household and medical expenses.  During the month of July 2018, Joan is scheduled to undergo surgery on the rectal mass, as well as her liver.  As a result, the family will need a lot of financial help.

If my family's hardship speaks to your heart, we appreciate a donation of any size. My prayer is that my sister has both parents at her high school graduation in 2019 and college graduation in 2023. Whether you are able to donate financially or not..... if you are a praying person, please keep our family in prayer.

Unfortunately, the money is needed in preparation for the worst while praying for the best!!!

Why are we requesting $50,000?

Medical Bills
Household and Living Expenses
Mandy's Graduation Expenses
College Tuition Assistance
Funeral Expenses (there is no life insurance)
